Sitting on the couch with my electric typewriter in my lap, I spill my guts onto the keyboard while my daughter plays at my feet.
This is how I write
I journal first, get out the gunk that’s clogging the machine that cranks out the gems. I will journal about what I am feeling or what I want to do for the day or what is bothering me, and then I want to write more. It just takes a few minutes.
I don’t need to turn my computer on or wait for a program to open up. I can type something on my phone, send an email to myself, text something, or write a short note. Just get my thoughts somewhere out there besides keeping them in my head. That gets the ball rolling and I want it to keep rolling.
Journal first thing in the morning
I would prefer to journal first thing in the day but it doesn’t ever work out that way. I end up doing it at night or sometime in the afternoon. Then I feel the need to stay up late thinking about what I should be writing while lying in bed or I stay up late writing. I have to do it to keep the blahs away. If I don’t write I feel anxious, angry, depressed.
Accomplish something great
I like the feeling I get after I write, even just journaling. It makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something great. It’s my purpose, I feel like I’m supposed to write. In a world where I don’t do it I feel like a nothing. I have to feel like a something, I have to write every day.
